Welcome to Folkestone Documentary Festival. The festival follows in footsteps of the monthly Doc Club at Folkestone Quarterhouse which began in 2019 and aims to present inspiring, innovative and impressive documentaries to more people than ever before.
In 2021 we welcomed the inaugural Folkestone Documentary Festival. From 12 to 14 November 2021 we enjoyed a jam-packed programme including a dog-friendly screening of Stray directed by Elizabeth Lo, I Get Knocked Down by Sophie Robinson and Everybody in the Place directed by Jeremy Deller who will be in conversation at the festival.
The filmmaker focus for 2021 was French New Wave director Agnes Varda. We screened her film The Gleaners and I, followed by a community meal in The Clearing prepared by Andre Verissimo (aka Local Foreigner) with seasonal food provided by East Kent Gleaning Hub.
We worked with guest programmers Karen Alexander and Rachel Pronger who presented and introduced films in person at the festival. Doc Lover festival passes gave access to all the events, talks and films over the course of the weekend.
