Guided Tour: Soundwalk with Sophie Stone

Sorry, this event has sold out

Take a soundwalk with Sophie Stone through Folkestone to learn about the artworks and their surrounding sounds. This tour will enable you to get to know the artworks through listening, and includes time to tune into and talk about the beautiful and diverse sounds of Folkestone. You will also stop at an artwork that has a sound element.

This soundwalk takes inspiration from Pauline Oliveros’s Sonic Meditations (1974). Sonic meditations involves listening to present sounds, imagining sounds and remembering sounds. You will have the chance to do this yourself on the tour and share any thoughts you wish to with the group.

Sophie Stone is a composer and sound artist from Folkestone. Her music explores listening, silence and quiet sounds, environmental sounds, improvisation and collaboration.

Operating throughout Folkestone Triennial, our tours are free to join but booking is essential.

Our guided tours are designed to include a number of artworks and will typically cover around 2km in distance. Our tour guides will do their best to accommodate every one on the tour but please note that due to the historic nature of the town there may be some steps or uneven surfaces to negotiate. Tours will take place rain or shine, so don’t forget to prepare for the Great British weather by bringing a rain coat and maybe even sun cream.

The majority of the tours will start at Quarterhouse unless otherwise stated. The tour may not end back where you started so please be aware of this when you plan your visit. Our guides can inform you of the routes you will take when you arrive.

If you have any questions or concerns about the guided tours please do not hesitate to contact us and one of our team will get back to you
