Through a series of both morning and afternoon workshops, Let’s Play Plaza explores previous and current iterations of Christopher Houghton Budd’s contribution to Folkestone’s regeneration story as seen from the point of view of this singular economist-artist-disruptor.
All workshops will take place at Urban Room Folkestone/One The Plaza. There's no need to book - just turn up!
Morning sessions: 11:00-12:30
Dates: Fortnightly on Saturdays: 7 & 14 August, 4 & 18 September and 2 & 16 October.
Embracing both practical and imaginary considerations, Let’s Play Plaza is backgrounded by the exhibition 'Mapping the Economy' -the focus of seven Saturday-morning workshops. These workshops have been designed to draw attention to the Plaza and new high street concept.
These morning workshops will be accompanied by the book 'Pent Up! Revaluing Folkestone' that documents Houghton Budd's survey of the immediate harbourside economy.
Dates: Saturdays 7 & 14 August, 4 & 18 September and 2, 16, 30 October.
Afternoon sessions: 15:30–17:00
Dates: Fornightly on Saturdays: 7 & 14 August, 4 & 18 September and 2 & 16 October
Written with 2021's Folkestone Triennial in mind, Christopher’s book - 'The Story of Folkstown (Rare Albion, Too)' - repurposes much of the town and several of its artworks as a way of imagining a more human approach to socio-economic life.
Six Saturday afternoon readings will overlay 'The Story of Folkstown' onto a map of Folkestone and its environs.
