Michel Faber’s D is set in two worlds: Cawber-on-Sands in England, which is based on Faber’s hometown of Folkestone, and the wintry land of Liminus, home to the Quilps, Magwitches and the Gamp.
The main characters in this fantasy novel are Dhikilo, born in Somaliland but adopted as a baby by an English couple; Professor Dodderfield, who everyone thinks is dead but isn’t; and Nelly Robinson, the Labrador who is also a sphinx.
The adventure begins when the letter D mysteriously disappears from everyone’s speech. Why i it isappear? An why is it so col in Liminus?
