(talk at 6.15pm followed by Q&A and drinks)

Free event, booking required by Friday 4 April

Guest speaker: Sandra Drew

You are warmly invited to the second event of the Kent Women’s Arts Club, a bimonthly networking event for cultural practitioners and professionals in East Kent. This series of events marks the run-up to the Folkestone Triennial, which opens this summer (30 August – 2 November 2014). For those new to the Club, the idea is to offer women in the arts a chance to connect informally with other interesting women, to fuel ideas and ambitions, share experiences, and to recognise and promote the calibre of creative women in Kent.

We were thrilled by the enthusiastic response to our first event on 26 February. Over 90 women from all over Kent participated in what was a very lively session! From the feedback we received, it appears that:

·         There is a need for a place for women to meet

·         That people enjoyed meeting those from across the region, not just in their local area

·         That people wanted a forum to discuss and announce opportunities for other women

We will look at ways to respond to this feedback, but as a first gesture, we are organising a blog spot on the Folkestone Triennial Events page, so that we can share information between meetings. More details to be announced. In the meantime, you are welcome to bring flyers to distribute during the event.

Each event will begin with a short presentation by a noteworthy cultural practitioner who has local connections, followed by a chance to ask questions and then free networking over drinks. Culture, here, will be taken in its widest sense, from visual arts to film, photography, literature, history, design, fashion, architecture, dance, music as well as retailers and creative entrepreneurs. We are honoured to welcome Sandra Drew, curator and arts consultant. She was the owner/Director of Drew Gallery 1981–1997 and the founding Director of Stour Valley Arts until she retired in 2012. Sandra lives in Canterbury.

This event is free, but booking is required. We would be grateful if you could book early, and certainly before 4 April, so that we can gauge numbers for catering and seating purposes. Please RSVP to owenkimm@creativefoundation.org.uk

Please do pass this on to any creative women you know. All are very welcome to this, and subsequent events.

We look forward to welcoming you again, and hopefully seeing some new faces soon
