Work In Progress

Marsh Academy 2

Creative Folkestone’s Work In Progress programme works in collaboration with East Kent schools, colleges and education providers. Its aim is to support young people’s interest in creativity by guiding them into creative work placements, enabling them to work alongside and with local artists and businesses in Folkestone’s Creative Quarter.

By connecting these two groups, Work In Progress will strengthen connections and relationships in the local community and provide an insight into the creative working environment. In doing so enabling a smooth transition from school to employment.

Young people will engage in the running of creative businesses, gaining an insight into the realities of managing both large and small independent businesses. Through these work placements young people will learn valuable skills and identify their specific talents. They are integrated into the thriving creative community during their placement, developing communication skills with the potential for future employment possibilities.

More than twenty placements have already been arranged over the past three years with local businesses including fashion, photographers, catering, counselling, artists, media, design and interiors, marketing, event organisation and town regeneration. Creative businesses include Feral ChildSteep Street Coffee House,  Big Boys Fine Burger Company, The Workshop, Whelkboy, Threads, Florish Design Studios, Realia Marketing and Screen South
