Caroline Lucas

At a time of ecological and political crises, both nationally and globally, Caroline Lucas discusses the challenges that face us and the possible futures that may lie ahead.

Caroline Lucas was first elected as Member of Parliament for Brighton Pavilion in 2010. She served as leader of the Green Party of England and Wales from 2008 to 2012, and Co-leader from 2016 to 2018. From 1999-2010 she served as one of the Party's first MEPs and represented the South East region until becoming the UK's first Green MP.

Caroline is Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Groups on Climate Change and Limits to Growth. She sits on Parliament’s influential Environmental Audit Committee and has also sat on temporary committees set up to scrutinise Government legislation.

Caroline's book, Honourable Friends?: Parliament and the Fight for Change, details her first parliamentary term as a fresh, green voice to the House of Commons. She also co-edited a book on cross-party working called The Alternative.

If we’re serious that this is a climate emergency; if we believe David Attenborough when he says that if we carry on with business as usual, we could be facing the end of civilisation as we know it; if we look at the report from the intergovernmental panel on biodiversity that we are at risk of losing a million species... a million species. These are easy words to say but when you think about what they actually mean, it is horrific.
