Connecting Creatives~ Free Creative Networking Event

Connecting Creatives is a free networking event for all creatives in Folkestone, and beyond. Guest speakers showcase their work, discuss their practice or share their skills, and time is provided after for informal discussions and networking. Free drinks will be provided.

Join us for a brilliant evening showcasing performance artists found within the Creative Quarter. This month, we'll be hearing from Terry Smith, Alison Neighbour, Alfredo Martin Espindola, and Rubiane Maia.

Doors are open from 5.15pm. We welcome all creatives to this event, whether a Creative Quarter tenant, a Folkestone resident, or a creative from near or far.

What to expect from some of our fantastic speakers,

Rubiane Maia is a Brazilian multidisciplinary artist based in Folkestone, UK. Her work is a hybrid of performance, installation, photography, video, and writing. In general, she is interested in the body, language, memory, phenomena, and organic matter, drawn to different states of perception and synergy through the relationships of interdependence and care between human beings and more-than-human beings, such as minerals and plants. ‘’I will be sharing insights into my Triennial project "In Search of Darkness" and my newly opened solo exhibition "Borders Without Edges" at kollectiv, discussing the motivations that shaped it and the challenges encountered along the way. This will be an opportunity to reflect on the creative process, the research behind the work with a local team. I will also warmly invite everyone to attend the live performance in the closing weekend of the Triennial on Saturday 18th.’’

Alison Neighbour is a Welsh visual artist working across scenography, performance, installations, rituals and journeys. Her practice is influenced by our relationship to the natural world and how we tell stories in relation to material, place, and time. At this event Alison will be talking about her recent project Finding Common Ground, which led to the evolution of a coracle as a ritual object for journeying with and being within, and to collaborations with the wind and the earth.
