Indefinite Articles: The Magic Lamp

Book this event online or email the box office at boxoffice@creativefolkestone.org.uk

A very special show for Christmas 2022 by internationally acclaimed puppet and object theatre company Indefinite Articles for everyone age 5 to 105!

An Iraqi telling of the classic Aladdin tale, The Magic Lamp is the story of a beautiful boy who, through luck and chance, ends up with a lamp-dwelling genie at his disposal.

Played out in a Bedouin tent with a set filled with billowing silken drapes, this bewitching shadow play is told using light, paper and oil. From these simplest of ingredients, Indefinite Articles conjure up fantastical characters, shimmering transformations, souks, caves, palaces and deserts choreographed to haunting original music.

“A harmonious shadow play of myth and magic”
-Time Out

“Wonderful work that celebrates the possibilities of theatre”
-The Guardian

Indefinite Articles was formed in 1995 by sculptor Sally Todd and puppeteer Steve Tiplady to combine their passion for transforming the everyday and mundane into something wonderful and sublime. They have told stories with sand, oil, chalk, glass, a few drops of ink and a lot of clay plus a puppet here and there!
