MCDC: Hopping

Get ready to move with Hopping – a joyful dance performance by Folkestone-based choreographer Michaela Cisarikova and her company MCDC.

This uplifting work is all about growth – of people and plants. It was first made in response to Jyll Bradley’s installation, The Hop, and features an original soundtrack by award-winning composer Emily Peasgood.

Through hip-hop and contemporary dance, the performance brings Payers Park to life. The dancers use shapes and rhythms to explore ideas of harvest, community and time.

Originally commissioned by Jyll Bradley and Hayward Gallery, Hopping has been performed at Frieze Sculpture 2023 in Regent’s Park and The Hop Square.

About MCDC:
Founded in 2014, MCDC is led by choreographer Michaela Cisarikova. The company makes fun, thoughtful and interactive dance. They bring people together in exciting and surprising ways, often in outdoor spaces.

For over 10 years, MCDC has toured across the UK and abroad – performing in towns, cities, fields, seafronts and festivals. Their work is made for everyone and always responds to the places and people they meet.

Their most successful show so far is Fish Out of Water, a dance about belonging, movement and change. Since 2021, it has been performed in 27 locations and seen by more than 11,000 people. It has been supported by Applause, Arts Council England (ACE), Creative Folkestone and 101 Outdoor Arts.

About Michaela Cisarikova:
Michaela’s dance style is full of energy and emotion. She mixes hip-hop, contemporary dance and physical theatre to tell powerful stories.

“The way Michaela dances and tells a story is quite remarkable. You can literally feel it oozing from her.” – Theatre Full Stop
