We’re thrilled to welcome back the irrepressible Robin Ince – comedian, author, broadcaster, and one of the UK’s most passionate champions of books and ideas.
In this joyful, surprising and deeply human event, Robin shares stories from his latest Ice Cream for a Broken Tooth – a witty, poignant celebration of childhood curiosities, broken things, and the emotional life of books. Expect philosophical tangents, unexpected connections, and big-hearted hilarity from a performer who can turn everything from quantum physics to custard creams into material for stand-up.
Robin’s appearances are part comedy set, part literary love letter, and always something unforgettable. A Radio 4 favourite (The Infinite Monkey Cage, Book Shambles), he’s adored for his generosity of thought and infectious enthusiasm – the kind of person who makes you want to read more, laugh harder, and believe in the world just a little more than before.
And a teaser: Robin will also be stepping into a very special new role as an ambassador for a special new project linked to Libraries in Folkestone – our town-wide celebration of books, imagination and community. All will be revealed soon, but this is your chance to be in the room when it begins…

Folkestone Book Festival is our annual celebration of books, bold ideas and the power of storytelling – by the sea. Curated by award-winning author and journalist Sophie Haydock (The Flames, Madame Matisse), this year’s programme features more than 50 events over 11 days, bringing together world-class writers, radical thinkers and unforgettable conversations – all inspired by Folkestone’s spirit of enabling creativity and transformative change.
