SALT + EARTH Festival: Dr Legumes - Walking Roots

Sorry, this event has sold out

Join Dr Legumes on a walking journey up onto the Kent Downs as they celebrate the local landscape, its flora and fauna. They will be drawing on the abundance of wild food available to us by creating a wild herb seasoning recipe and mapping a trail of where these wonderful ingredients can
be found.

Through this adventure they hope to highlight how certain ingredients have migrated to the shores of East Kent, through geological time and movement of populations. Geology has a huge influence on the settlement of our communities; where the rich conditions of the ground composition meet with the ever changing weather and fresh water sources, edible wild foods can be found in abundance.

Join James and Lee from Dr Legumes for an outdoor walk over four hours concluding in a light lunch at a mystery location. The walk will be mapped in four sections :

Section 1: Dr Legumes HQ to Little Switzerland
On this leg of the journey, we will head out from Folkestone Harbour Arm along to Sunny Sands, up to East Cliff and to Little Switzerland. This part of the walk will include a food related item and a segment to the day/project walking map. Along this route we will explore the abundance of wild plants growing on the edge of town and try to work out where they’ve come from.

Section 2: Little Switzerland to Crete Road East
Challenge yourself! As we head up from Little Switzerland to the Crete Road East
pillbox, we embark on a part of the journey that concludes our travels from sea level up to the start of the Downs. This is the steepest, most challenging part of the walk. Once
we arrive at the top end of Crete Road East, we will stop off at the Hydration Station and pick up part 3 of the map.

Sections 3 & 4 will be revealed on the day. Trail treats will be provided by Dr Legumes.
Please wear footwear suitable for walking long distance over uneven terrain and dress for the weather. Difficulty level: Moderate to Challenging. Booking is essential for this walk.

Dr Legumes use locally sourced, plant-based ingredients as a tool to communicate the ethos of health-conscious food within the local community. They are passionate about blending local and exotic flavours, wild and foraged plants, to create unique dining experiences, talks and workshops
