Quarterhouse Big Dance Special with Andy Smith & Folkestone Soul Brothers
Ska-Bour Fringe is bringing a Northern Soul Big Dance Special to Quarterhouse on the afternoon of September 17th. Andy Smith of Portishead will be spinning a Northern Soul speciality set. An appreciation of different genres made Smith the ideal person to provide samples for Portishead’s first two albums. He went on to make his name as their international tour DJ, reflecting their respect for both digging and hip-hop scratch DJ-ing. Hip-hop elements formed the basis of Portishead’s unique sound.
So, why is DJ Andy Smith putting out a Northern Soul event? ‘It's fantastic music that I've been collecting for a long time. People that go to my gigs will know that I like to include Northern Soul in my regular DJ sets and this is a project that I've wanted to do for a while.’
Joined by the Folkestone Soul Mitchel Brothers this 5 hour afternoon event will bring together the best dancers, twisters and shakers from across the county.
There will be dance competition and prizes hosted and judged by very special guests. Get suited, booted and practicing!
