Origins Untold: gaze (a poetry reading)

Sorry, this event has sold out

What is the direction of your gaze? Where does it settle? When is it deflected?

Origins Untold presents an evening of poetry from Black and LGBTQIA+ poets. Hosted by Josephine Carter and Ray Felix Carter and featuring readings by local favourites and special guests, ‘gaze’ will illuminate Black and queer perspectives on looking, seeming and being looked at, in the cosy and radical environs of The Folkestone Bookshop.

Tender, complex and resounding, gaze: a poetry reading invites you to consider what happens when our gazes intersect, and when they falter.

Origins Untold is an arts organisation presenting cultural, creative and social events for, by and with Black, African and Caribbean-heritage people in Folkestone.

Josephine Carter is a queerblack poet and performer who lives in Folkestone. She makes composed and improvised texts for use in public and (mostly) private.

Ray Felix Carter is a multi-disciplinary artist-entity whose practice spans across facilitation, narrative illustration & comics, spoken word poetry, sound installation, drawing-as-performance & costume-making.
