University of the Creative Arts: HARVEST - Salon

This salon will bring together notable architects, designers, critics and thinkers for a multi-disciplinary discussion on the importance of HARVEST to their practice. Whether gathering waste materials from urban construction sites, coppicing trees for furniture production, working with self-grown crops, cultivating plants for natural dyes, or creating buildings that work with seasonal changes rather than against them, each of our speakers is actively engaged in new forms of design practice and research relating to questions of climate and ecology.
Our speakers include: Local Works, Miranda Vane, Shahed Saleem, Studio TIP, Tom Emerson (6A Architects) and Daniel (Cooking Sections). Moderated by Cat Rossi and Charles Holland (Professors of Architecture at UCA), the salon will explore the rich and varied ways that the disciplines of architecture and design are reacting to critical questions of climate and ecology. The salon will be recorded.
The salon will take place in the Clearing, on the second floor of the Quarterhouse. Each speaker will give a short talk addressing the salon theme before taking part in a general discussion with each other and the audience. Following the salon, guests and speakers can continue the conversation over an informal reception of drinks and seasonal, plant-based food supplied by Folkestone-based Dr Legumes.
