Connecting Creatives: Film

Connecting Creatives is a free monthly networking event for all creatives in Folkestone. Each month guest speakers showcase their work, talk about their practice or share their skills, and time is provided after for informal discussions and networking. Free drinks will be provided.

At this May’s event, the theme we’re highlighting is ‘Film’, and we have some fascinating speakers lined up – see below, with more to be announced.

Emelie Mahdavian is an Emmy, Peabody, and Sundance Award-winning filmmaker. Her films explore the grandeur of our planet and the beauty of human connection. She is currently completing her fifth feature film, entitled PLANET A, a film about a women-led science team on the final scientific expedition to Antarctica's "Doomsday Glacier" before it collapses into the sea.

Jo Nolan is the Executive Director of Screen South, a Cultural Development Agency supporting and managing production, talent and skills development across film, digital and cultural arena. They have delivered several training and cultural programmes including ; Hi3 Network partnership, BBC Arts New Creatives , C4 Random Hi3.

Peter Blach is the director of Klip Films, which provides film and video services for businesses, the arts and the public sector. Peter has 25 years of experience in the industry. His office is based at The Glassworks and he has been a Creative Quarter tenant for 10 years.

BAFTA-winning Director Philip Dupée is a Creative Director & Film Director. With his own production company ‘Hello Love’ he has shot numerous TV Commercials and Content Films for Brands and Agencies all around the world including for NIKE, Vivienne Westwood, and the marketing launch for The BBC Earth Experience with Sir David Attenborough.

Doors are open from 5.15pm, and the event starts at 5.30pm at The Clearing, the upstairs bar at Quarterhouse. We welcome all creatives to this event, whether a Creative Quarter tenant, a Folkestone resident, or a creative from near or far.

Future themes include fundraising, live performance, fashion and entrepreneurialism.
