Guest Speakers

Sara Trillo is an artist who has been selected for How Lies the Land? She is a visual artist based in east Kent. She explores landscapes through research, walking, and making, seeking to uncover hidden histories of the human presence within our shared ecological environment. Her sculptural output ranges from small handheld tools to immersive installations deploying archaic making skills such as flint-napping and plant-dyeing processes. She also leads public walks which include performative sharing narratives about the mythologies of the sites explored.

Oliver Enwonwu is a third-generation artist; his grandfather was a reputable traditional sculptor, while his father, Professor Ben Enwonwu MBE, is celebrated as Africa’s pioneer modernist artist. In his paintings, Oliver explores liminal spaces, creating layered languages to nurture notions of freedom, decoloniality and interdependence through narratives of the body. With reverence for ancestral knowledge and our personal and collective histories, he draws upon autobiographical stories to challenge dominant narratives, imagine new futures and ultimately heal by leveraging the transformative power of art to foster mental wellbeing

Ryan Jacovides from Pomus Folkestone will be talking about his hospitality journey, where he has worked as the MD at the Jamie Oliver Group to where he is now, opening his third branch of Pomus.

Kristjana S Williams has recently opened a NEW gallery in Folkestone. She is a multidisciplinary artist whose work spans hand and laser-cut collage, illustration, animation and digital design. Her artworks draw inspiration from Victorian engravings and the natural world, and involve the physical and digital layering of exotic botanicals and vibrant animals to build fantastical, dream-like worlds.

Creative Folkestone Curatorial team will be talking about the Folkestone Triennial and more about ‘How Lies the Land’
