Melting Vinyl: The Unthanks - The Sorrows Away Tour
Sorry, this event has sold out
The Unthanks are one of the leading lights in contemporary English folk of the 21st century. In June 2022, the band will bring their unique blend of folk, jazz and everything else in-between to Folkestone.
After a two year break, The Unthanks return to performing live. The band will be showcasing the forthcoming new album, Sorrows Away, their first non-project based record since 2015 BBC Folk Album Of The Year, Mount The Air.
Using the traditional music of the North East of England as a starting point, The Unthanks combine influences from the worlds of Jazz, contemporary classical, Blues and more. Listen to the back catalogue and hear the likes of Miles Davis, Steve Reich, Sufjan Stevens, Robert Wyatt, Tom Waits, and everything in-between. Their eclectic style has earned them a Mercury Music Prize nomination and international acclaim along the way.
The Unthanks will play songs from across this repertoire, in addition to tracks from the new album, Sorrows Away, with a 5-piece line-up. At the nucleus of a constantly evolving unit is the traditional upbringing of Tyneside sisters Rachel and Becky Unthank and the arrangements and writing of composer, pianist, producer and Yorkshireman, Adrian McNally.

“The Unthanks have covered a lot of ground in the past decade and watching them evolve over this period has been truly inspiring.” Phillip Selway (Radiohead) “The honest and heartfelt way in which they deliver their music is a true inspiration to me.” - Martin Hayes
“It hits you in your soul rather than your head. I love them.” - Adrian Edmondson
“If there was such a thing still as having a favourite band like in the old days, I’d say they were my favourite band.” - Paul Morley
