Metaxu Collective: Summer School

Sorry, this event has sold out

Metaxu Collective are joining forces with MUMDAD Records to present a week of open-to-all music workshops that will provide the opportunity for young people aged 12 - 16 years to work individually and collaboratively to develop their musical skillset. Participants will benefit from a variety of masterclasses throughout the week, as well as have the opportunity to create and rehearse their own performance piece, ready to showcase on Friday evening.

No music experience necessary – just bring yourself and your enthusiasm!

Workshops start at 10am and end at 3pm from Monday 8 August through until Thursday 11 August. On Friday 12 August, participants will be asked to stay later for a rehearsal and a performance showcase.

Metaxu Collective pioneer new musical talent with workshops that aim to inspire future sounds. Workshops provide a space for young people to experiment with sounds, music and production.

Masterclasses:

Song-writing with Lorraine Lucas

Discover the magic of making up songs. The workshop will help participants understand the basic principles of writing songs such as: what is a melody and how do you create one? How do we transform words and ideas into a simple 3-minute song? The group will learn how to appreciate how collaborating with others can help bring the initial ideas to life by working on strengths, but mostly it will be lots of fun as we discover the joys to be found in making up songs!

Navigating the music industry as a performer with Mikey Vegas

Mikey Vegas is a music industry professional, handling bookings for Nass and Boardmasters as well as working alongside Ministry of Sound and BBC Introducing. Mikey will run a seminar on getting booked, standing out, and keeping going in an ever-changing industry.

Live recording with Tim Smith (Seaview Studio)

At the end of the week participants will also get the opportunity to be recorded live by Tim Smith from Seaview Studio.

The cost for one week of workshops is £50 per participant
