DJs in the clearing by Quarterhouse Lates
Friday evening's programme starts with a red-hot triple bill from Margate based Richard Pike and his Deep Learning project, Folkestone's own ILĀ and Outlands Network new commission Penumbra - a new collaboration by Dali de Saint Paul, Maxwell Sterling, Charlie Hope and Rebecca Salvadori brought to us by.
This first night of joy will be interwoven with a curated night of DJ sets as part of Quarterhouse's Friday Lates in The Clearing.

DEEP LEARNINGDeep Learning aka Richard Pike is one third member of former Warp outfit PVT, founder of the Salmon Universe label and an award-winning TV soundtrack composer.

An Australian-born multi-instrumentalist Pike records elegant ambient music as a member of Forgiveness on Gondwana Records, sound-designs for United Visual Artists London and has made music for psychedelic therapy with Wavepaths.

His album Evergreen is described as “Hypnotic, fluid worlds of sound from the scattered clicks and hiccuping grooves of hand-scratched CD-Rs and plasticky softsynths. Evergreen explores themes of repetition, stasis, regeneration, and rebirth” in Bandcamp's Best New Electronic column, and:

“Constructed around skipping and CD glitch textures Deep Learning’s ‘Evergreen’ dances like sunbeams through a prism” - Bandcamp New & Notable

Richard will perform at Profound Sound for the first time with generative visual artist Maximo Recio

ILĀMultifaceted artist and producer, ILĀ will be performing a solo electronic set fusing ethereal non-binary vocal timbre, dense sonic textures and quantum data sonification. Their work explores fluidity from personal identity through to socio-economic systems with a focus on physics, philosophy and emerging technologies. ILĀ’s set features music from their upcoming film MURMUR - a collaboration with Ai-Da (the first humanoid robot artist), Imogen Heap, Guy Sigsworth, Bishi and Portrait XO created using pioneering AI tools.

PENUMBRAPenumbra is an experimental performance created by vocalist Dali de Saint Paul, electronic composer and double bassist Maxwell Sterling, and visual artists Charlie Hope and Rebecca Salvadori. Emerging from a collaborative process during a series of shared sessions, it comprises improvised music and sound structured by a prepared score composed of video and lighting elements. Commissioned by Outlands, the project will take shape over a series of live shows in spring 2024.
