Radical Motion: “I’m Me” Accessible Research Workshop

Discover how inclusive, collaborative research can transform creative practice in this interactive workshop inspired by the I’m Me project. This event is part of Radical Motion – a new disability dance festival for Folkestone, hosted by Confidance.
Co-led by Professor Matthew Reason (York St. John University), researcher Daniel Foulds, and ConfiCo (Confidance’s professional company), this session offers a unique insight into a groundbreaking two-year research journey.
I’m Me brought together over 100 learning disabled and autistic artists from across the UK (2023–2025), exploring themes of identity, representation, and voice.
Through a series of hands-on creative activities and open discussions, you will be guided through the project’s process - experiencing first-hand how the research was shaped, and its impact for artists and audiences.
The workshop will also reveal how this research directly inspired ConfiCo’s latest production, Give Me Space, offering a behind-the-scenes look at research-driven performance-making. Join us to experience a dynamic, accessible approach to research that puts artists’ voices at its heart.

Access / What to expect:
• This event will take place in The Clearing, upstairs in the Quarterhouse.
• You will have the opportunity to try out some exercises and tasks; you do not need any dance experience to join us.
• The venue is wheelchair accessible.
• It has a disabled toilet, but does not have a hoist facility.
• You can stim, move or make noise during the workshop; you can take breaks whenever you need.

ConfiCo are Confidance’s professional training company, made up of dancers with learning disabilities. Since they formed in 2019, ConfiCo have created and performed bold new dance performances across Kent. Alongside training, they bring high-quality representation to key arts events and perform to hundreds of people each year.
Confidance have been trailblazing inclusion in Kent for over 15 years. They provide accessible dance training where it is lacking: in schools, community classes and through professional training. Their mission is to ensure that people with learning disabilities andor neurodivergence are seen, heard and valued.
