Share your Sewage Story: Meet the Minister of Sewers
Sorry, this event has sold out
In July 2025, Folkestone opened the UK's first Ministry of Sewers—a civic space dedicated to tackling coastal water pollution and demanding a swimmable sea year-round.
Based in the old Customs House, the Ministry listens to residents, collects testimonies, and mobilises action against sewage releases, stream contamination, and agrochemical runoff.
Rooted in the older meaning of “sewer” as a life-giving waterway, the Ministry sees sewers not just as waste channels but as vital connectors—linking springs, aquifers, marshes, and marine habitats. We invite swimmers, farmers, schoolchildren, scientists, fishers, and neighbours to share their experiences of murky tides, beach bans, foul smells, water bills, health impact, and ecological damage.
Book here to meet a Minister of Sewers to voice your concerns, share experiences, bring evidence, and add your testimony to help build the Log of Grievances - a living archive of water degradation and everyday resistance along the Kent coast.
Slots are 25 minutes in duration and available daily between 11am and 5pm from Saturday 19 July to Sunday 19 October
Maximum of two people per slot, children are welcome but will need to be accompanied by an adult.
The Ministry of Sewers is located in The Customs House, Harbour Arm, Folkestone CT20 1QH
